Mary Lundberg Vanstrom was born on a farm in Lincoln County, Minnesota, November 16, 1882, the daughter of Chris and Selma Johnson. She moved with her parents at an early age to Clarkfield where her father was engaged in the merchantile business. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended the Boeck School of Music in Wilder, Minnesota. In 1901 she was married to Carl M. Lundberg. Three children were born to this union, namely: Hildred (Mrs. Marvin Afdem) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Gladys (Mrs. Henry B. Kolbensvik) of Portland, Oregon, and Milton, who passed away in Kenyon in 1957. Mary was the oldest of six children. A brother, Russell Johnson, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Mabel (Mrs. A.L. Anderson) of Spicer, Minnesota, survive her. Carl, Martin and Christine passed away in early youth. She was for many years a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church ladies aid and later a member of the Esther ladies aid of First English Lutheran Church. Her husband passed away in 1938. In 1943 she married John Vanstrom a charter member of First English Lutheran Church. By this marriage, she has several step children, namely, Mrs. Vera Johnson of Minneapolis, Earl of Bemidji, Minnesota, Vernon of Kasson, Minnesota, Ruth (Mrs. Frank Thompson) of Maynard, Minnesota, and Lucille (Mrs. Oscar Johnson) of Storden, Minnesota. The Vanstroms lived in their home at the east edge of Clarkfield until the death of Mr. Vanstrom. After that she made her home with her daughters. She passed away July 29, 1961, at the home of her daughter, Hildred Afdem, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 78 years. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
