Final rites for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stensrud who died at her home at Cottonwood, June 26, 1972, were conducted Friday, June 30, 1972. Mary Elizabeth Stensrud was born December 31, 1900, at Roseland, Nebraska, to Gustave C. and Sarah E. (Kade) Burchard. She attended school here until moving to Montana with her parents in April, 1913. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cottonwood, the Women's Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. On September 15, 1919, she was united in marriage to John Stensrud at Chinook, Montana. In 1925 they moved to Minnesota where she spent the remainder of her life except for the four years she lived in Richmond, California, during World War II. She is survived by her husband, John; a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Walter Birner) of Canby, Minnesota; sons, Orville J. of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Cyril C. of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Iva Denny of Yakima, Washington, and Selma (Mrs. Earl Weed) of Kalispeel, Montana; three brothers: Alfred C. of Spokane, Washington, Leslie E. of Chinook, Montana, and Leland E. of Gold Beach, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ardell (Mrs. Albert VanDamme), three grandchildren, her parents, one sister and two brothers.
