Martin Staff was born in Norway, December 27, 1889, the son of Johanes Staff and Ellena (Christianson) Staff, and came to America as a young man. He worked on farms in this area and later he and an uncle purchased a farm in Normania Township. Here the two made their home until the uncle passed away about fourteen years ago. Martin has carried on alone since that time. He has one other brother, Hans, who lives at Fisher, Minnesota, and two cousins, Mr. Carlton Varpness in Normania and Mrs. Hilda Johnson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, besides some cousins near Benson, Minnesota. Mr. Staff had been suffering with a heart condition for the past few years and passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital Thursday, September 30, 1954, after being a patient overnight.
