Martin Ernest Reishus was born November 14, 1906, in Normania Township of rural Cottonwood, Minnesota. His parents were Knute and Annetta (Miller) Reishus. Martin became a child of God through Holy Baptism on December 23, 1906, at St. Lucas Church by the Rev. Martin Romstad. On July 3, 1921, he renewed his Baptism Covenant through Confirmation at. St. Lucas Church by Rev. N. L. Otterstad. Martin attended country school and later attended Agricultural School located in St. Paul, Minnesota. On September 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ardith Kompelien at Porter Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed his birthplace in Normania Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. To this marriage three children were born: Mark, Mary and Mario. They continued to live on the farm until the spring of 1983 when they moved into Cottonwood. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing and watching baseball and bowling. In his later years, he enjoyed visits from his grandchildren, family, friends and neighbors. In his retirement, he began golfing and enjoyed working on the yard. He was always ready for a game of pinochle and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Martin passed away on Monday, October 9, 2000, at the Granite Falls Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 25 days He is survived by his wife Ardith; three children: Mark and wife Nancy Reishus, Mary and husband Charles Brock and Mario Reishus; and four grandchildren: Darin and wife Stephanie Brock, Nathan Brock, Emily and Erica Reishus. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers: Orville, Clarence, Alfred, Norman, William, Stanley, Franklin and Howard; two sisters: Myrtle and Vivian. Blessed be his memory.
