Obituary

Martin Nelson, son of Haakon and Bertha (Haakenson) Nelson, was born September 22, 1897, about three miles west and two miles north of Clarkfield, in Ten Mile Lake Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd by Rev. Farseth, December 5th, 1897, and confirmed by Rev. E.C. Eid in 1913. His boyhood days were spent at home on the farm, but for the past 30 years he has been engaged in road building, and has been employed by several construction companies including Lobnitz Bros. of Willmar. One of his best projects was the five mile section of Highway 67, west of Clarkfield. At his death and for several years past he has been employed by the John Pukrof Construction Co. of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, the firm that is to build Highway 59 south of Clarkfield. He had anticipated with pleasure the starting of this project this fall. On Thursday, October 19, 1950, Martin was taken suddenly ill with a heart attack and taken to the Tyler Hospital, Tyler, Minnesota, where he passed away Tuesday morning, October 24, 1950. Martin was joined in marriage to Estelle Gilberg at Morris, Minnesota, December 19, 1932. At his death he was 53 years and one month old. Surviving Mr. Nelson are his wife, and the following brothers and sisters: Melvin of Jud, North Dakota, Carl of Dawson, Minnesota, Mrs. Marvin Gustafson of Porter, Minnesota, Mrs. Lyman Sack of Minneapolis, Floyd of San Mateo, California, Mrs. Martin Nerheim, Mrs. Martin Olson, Helmer, Arthur and Gerda of Boyd.
