Martha Randina (Stevens) Olson was born December 19, 1870, to Guri H (Glaim) Stevens and Stephen J Stevens of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She was the oldest of ten children. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hanley Falls Church and grew to womanhood in that community. On February 5, 1891, she married John Olson of Cottonwood. The couple lived in Yellow Medicine County most of their life. They retired from the farm and moved to Granite Falls in 1936. In February, 1942, Martha and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at Spring Creek Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in May, 1942; by a daughter, Mabel, who died in infancy, and a son, Chester, who passed away at the age of 21 years; her parents; a stepfather, H.O. Hegna; three sisters: Mrs. John Jarshaw, Mrs. Matt Anderson and Mrs. Walter Jertson; and one brother, Olia Hegna. She reached the age of 89 years. Left to mourn her departure are the following: Mabel Benson of Minneapolis, Jeanette (Mrs. Paul Ackley) of Blairsberg, Iowa, Arnold, Pearl (Mrs. Arthur Knudson), and Wallace, all of Granite Falls, Gale of Frederick, Wisconsin, Mildred (Mrs. Orren Fjeldstad) of Minneapolis; 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; five brothers: Jerome Stevens of Bismark, North Dakota, Samuel Stevens of Mansfield, Ohio, George Hegna of Minneapolis, Melvin Hegna of Clarkfield and Hiram Hegna of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; besides a number of cousins and many friends.
