Martha L. Jorgenson, who was residing on the west coast with her two daughters, passed away on December 16, 1978, at Salem, Oregon. At the time of her death, she was 85 years old. The youngest child of Lars and Mathea Hoel, she was born July 6, 1893, in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church where she was a lifelong member. On February 14, 1924, she was united in marriage to M. Gifford Jorgenson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Until the death of her husband in 1959, they resided and farmed in south Clarkfield. Since that time, she has lived with her daughters in South Dakota, Washington and Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband and infant son; her parents; one sister and a brother who died in infancy; two brothers, Ole and Adolph Hoel; and two sisters, Minnie Hoel and Mary Hanson. She is survived by two daughters, Myrna Smith and Vivian Thompson; five grandchildren: Julie and David Smith and Eric, Brent, and Jeaudelle Thompson; one sister, Anna Kjos; one brother, Alvin Hoel; a son-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
