Obituary

Services for Marlyce Heimark-Nelson, 92, of Madison, MN, will be Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11 AM at Bergen Lutheran Church; 4603 310th Ave Granite Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Bergen Lutheran Cemetery.

Marlyce Lorraine (Swanson) Heimark-Nelson was born January 9, 1933, at Asbury Hospital in Minneapolis to Edwin Swanson and Evelyn (Goude). She grew up in Richfield and St. Louis Park, graduating from St. Louis Park High School in 1950. Marlyce married Clark L Heimark on December 22,1951, in St. Louis Park. The couple were blessed with seven children. Marlyce was not afraid to roll up her sleeves, working alongside Clark in major home remodels and farming, as well as owning her own business, "Marlyce's Curiosity Shop," doing furniture refinishing, draperies, upholstery, and ceramics.

At 10 years old Marlyce began sewing, taking immense pride in her work and it showed by making her daughters' wedding and bridesmaid dresses and some baptismal gowns for her grandchildren. Sewing was not her only hobby; she also had an equal passion for gardening. Over the years she grew fruits, vegetables and flowers in large gardens for canning and vegetable stands; however, her talents really shined at Grace Haven when she entered her vegetables and flowers at the Lac Qui Parle County Fair, receiving many 1st and 2nd place ribbons up to last year at the age of 91.

There was no such word as "stranger" to Marlyce. Everyone became family or a very dear friend, and they all knew they were welcome at any time to her home, her dining table, and to her kind deeds.

With Clark's passing on December 10, 2006, Marlyce moved in 2012 to Grace Haven Assisted Living in Madison where she met and married Roger Nelson on June 17, 2017.

Marlyce is survived by her children, Charles (Joy) Heimark, Deborah (David) Werner, Rick Heimark, Chery Stensrud, Carol (Bobb) Quenemoen, Curt (Mary) Heimark, Allie Heimark; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, in addition to many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marlyce was preceded in death by her husbands, Clark and Roger; son-in-law, Brad Stensrud; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Martin; step-grandchildren, Troy Quenemoen, and Tammy Quenemoen, and step great-grandson, Dalton Kleeberger.
