Obituary

The spirit and soul of Marjorie June Nelson, age 87, were freed from this fragile life on Sunday, March 1, 2009. "Marge" held Clarkfield, Minnesota, as her home for most of her life. She stepped into eternal glory from her latest residence at Luther Haven in Montevideo, Minnesota, where she was living with Donny, her husband of 64 years. She was released from her frail body to receive an incorruptible one in the presence of God. Marge was born in Ihlen, Minnesota, on October 29, 1921, the daughter of Christian Carl "CC" and Mabel (Dahl) Elkjer. She spent most of her growing up years and her married years in Clarkfield. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Nelson, on February 10, 1945, while he was still serving in the Army Air Corp. As WW II drew to a close, they returned to Clarkfield. Marge's love for God and for her family was central to her life as she raised three children, teaching them a love for God and family as well. Marge's legacy continues in the lives she has touched through her many prayers and continual encouragements within her family and with many in the community. Her heart for God's creation was frequently expressed in her paintings, her flowers and her travels, especially as the empty nest became a reality. The warmth and beauty of God's creation displayed in her art work continues to bless the homes of her children and grandchildren as well as many homes in the community. Throughout Marge's life, her love and devotion for God provided a model for the whole family during times of peace and of crisis. Her family and friends continue to remark how her prayers and encouragement provided strength and focus in those times. This mantel of prayer that she carried so faithfully has now been passed to the next generation. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Don; and her children: Gail Olson, Chris Nelson, Steve Nelson; and their families which include 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; her brother, Stan Elkjer and his wife Marion; and sister-in-law Martha Elkjer. Marge was preceded in her journey by her parents, CC and Mabel Elkjer; sister Louise Lofdahl; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Elkjer.
