Marie Mathilda Oakland was born January 26, 1895, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Bertha (Johnson) Oakland. She was baptized, confirmed and a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She attended schools in the Clarkfield community, after which she worked for many years at the O.T. Anderson store in Clarkfield. She also worked in Minneapolis and St. James and then owned her own business, "Marie's Apparel" in Clarkfield located where Ione's Beauty Shop is at present. At the time of her death, she was employed at Aldred's Department Store in Granite Falls. She passed away February 12, 1958, at the Granite Falls Hospital, at the age of 63 years. She leaves to mourn her passing four sisters: Mrs. Carl Bue of Granite Falls, Mrs. Olaf Winson of Valley City, North Dakota, Mrs. Basil Johnson of Clarkfield, and Mrs. Chris J. Spande of Minneapolis; besides many nieces and nephews, by whom she was dearly loved, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Marie was kind and loving and ready to help in time of need and trouble. Blessed be her memory. IN MEMORY OF MARIE M.
