Marie Hanserud Melbostad was born February 4, 1885, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingebret and Marie (Johnson) Hanserud. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed October 1, 1899, by Pastor O.C. Farseth. She was a life long member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Willing Workers, later joining the Ladies Aid where she served as long as her health permitted. On August 12, 1922, she was united in marriage to Ole Melbostad. They made their home in Clarkfield until his sudden death on August 27, 1959. Mrs. Melbostad's health had been failing for several years, but it was just recently that her condition was regarded as serious. She passed away September 18, 1961, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 76 years. Surviving are her two sisters: Gina Lynne and Belle Youngern; two brothers: Edward and John Hanserud; four nephews: Oscar and Elmer Melbostad and Arden and Clifford Lynne, all of Clarkfield.
