Marie Chrestine (Haaland) Aakvik, 84, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 1989, after being a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, since December 2, 1989. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 1989 at the Lynner Funeral Home Chapel of Clarkfield with Pastor Robert Lehner officiating. Burial was held on Friday, December 22, 1989, at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Hovland, Minnesota. Serving as Casket Bearers were Ronald Bergstrom, Clarence Hagen, Mark Hanson, Nick Jacobson, James Radke and Blair Woolsey. A Memorial Service will be held on January 11, 1990, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hovland. Marie Chrestine Aakvik was born near Clarkfield on April 17, 1905 to Gabriel and Barbara (Fenn) Haaland. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Chrestine was married to Helmer Aakvik in 1926 and in 1928 they moved to Hovland where they resided. She spent and enjoyed three winters at the home of her brother, Gustav Haaland. Surviving Chrestine are her brothers and sisters, Gustav and Mildred Haaland, Minnie and Oren Christensen, Gerhard Haaland, Annie and Clarence Christensen, all of Clarkfield, Mabel Brandt of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Karl and Viola Haaland of Clarkfield, and Helen and Bruce Leasman of Boyd, Minnesota; son-in-law, Clarence Hagen of Hovland and four grandchildren, Gene and Ralph Hagen, Dorothy Jackopich of Grand Marais, Minnesota, and Laurie Hagen of Duluth, Minnesota. Chrestine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Marie Hagen; brothers and sisters, Ole, Hannah, Kenneth and Gladys; a niece, Karen Haaland.
