Obituary

Marguerite Ellen (Pike) Zimmerman was born March 10, 1917, to Leon and Estella (Eggler) Pike on the family farm near Rochester, Minnesota. She was baptized at Church of Peace and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church, both of Rochester. She attended Moody School District #47 in Haverhill Township and graduated from Rochester High School in 1936. She then attended Winona State Teacher's College graduating in 1938 and taught in rural Olmstead County Schools for 12 years. She also worked in the 4-H building at the Minnesota State Fair for all of those 12 years. Marguerite was united in marriage to Harold Zimmerman of Pine Island, Minnesota, on September 24, 1950, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota. They made their home near Pine Island where their three children, Zee Anne, Lance and Jan were born. In 1956, when Harold became the Yellow Medicine County DHIA supervisor, they moved to Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She did the DHIA bookwork, substitute taught at the Hanley Falls School, was a volunteer tutor, worked in the Exhibit building at the Yellow Medicine County Fair for many years, sold Avon for 10 years, and was very active in her church. She taught Parochial and Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a faithful member of the Altar Guild, held various offices in WELCA, and worked in the church library and with quilting. She and Harold enjoyed traveling, attending family reunions, square dancing and were members of the Hazel Run Fiddle Footers Square Dancing Club. She was a long time member of the Hanley Falls Study Club and enjoyed birding, reading, calligraphy, flower arranging, vegetable and flower gardening, baking and numerous other crafts. In 2002 she moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood, Minnesota, and had resided at the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, since August of 2004. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Marguerite passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 90 years and 9 months.
