Obituary

Mrs. Margrethe Lund Olson was born on August 14, 1863, in Benton County, Iowa, the daughter of Jens and Cecelia Lund. She was baptized in Iowa by Rev. Nils Amelaund. She passed away peacefully in the Lord after a long illness Wednesday morning, January 12th, 1955, and had reached the age of 91 years, four months and 28 days. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Humboldt County, Iowa, where she spent her childhood and youth. She was confirmed By Rev. O.A. Sauer. On October 21, 1883, Margrethe was united in marriage to Mr. Ove Olson at Thor, Iowa, where they made their home, until the spring of 1901, when together with the Sam Lund and John Olson families they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, and settled on a farm in Tyro Township. Here they made their home until ten years ago, when they left the farm and moved to a home in Clarkfield. Mrs. Olson was a devoted, Christian Wife and mother, a faithful worker in the church and ladies aid, and was a warm promoter of all kinds of mission work. Her work in caring for the sick and needy will be remembered by scores of people in this community, as she gave untiringly of her time and talents. Together with Dr. M.M. Hauge they braved many storms as she assisted him in administering to the sick. She is survived by six children, namely, Mrs. Cecelia Hanson, Agnes, and Selmer of Clarkfield, Josie (Mrs. Lars Amdahl) of Northfield, Minnesota, Carolyn (Mrs. Carl Anderson) of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, Gerhard of Boyd, Minnesota; two foster daughters, Anna Marie (Mrs. Cecil Bickhart) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Clara Payne of Seattle, Washington. Other survivors are ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John Olson; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Sam Lund; besides a host of relatives and friends who together with her family will mourn the departure of a loving mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband; oldest son, Carl; daughter, Alice; and an infant daughter.
