Margaret (Hiemstra) Pelz was born on July 21, 1926, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, to parents William and Lena (Bosvold) Hiemstra. She was one of three siblings. She married Harold E. Pelz on June 21, 1949, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with three children: Marguerite, Carol, and Dale. Margaret and Harold lived in the Redwood Falls-Delhi-Wabasso, Minnesota areas before moving to Hanley Falls, Minnesota, in the early 1960s. They remained there until their move to the Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1996. Margaret was a member of the Clarkfield United Methodist Church. She was President of the United Methodist Women's Group. She was very involved at Valhalla, where she helped with the 'card recycling' and was a Tenants Representative on the Valhalla Task Force. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. Often she would be in the apartment lobby visiting or sharing a friendly wave. Margaret entered the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota, the week of August 13th for surgery. She passed away Sunday evening, August 20, 2000, at the age of 74 years and 1 month. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold, who now is a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center, and her children: Marguerite (and John) Altmann of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Carol (and Mark) Long of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Dale Pelz of Northfield, Minnesota. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and a sister Elsie Fisher of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
