Margaret Elisabeth Larsen was born April 7, 1912, in Cottonwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Hjalmer and Emma (Norseth) Larsen. She grew up and attended school in Cottonwood. Margaret graduated from St. Olaf College in 1936 and later received a masters degree from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. She taught in public schools in Minnesota and was a member of the faculty at the University of Minnesota extension college at Crookston for many years. Following that she was assistant professor and Dean of Women at Valley City State College, Valley City, North Dakota. In 1975 Margaret retired and returned to her ancestral home in Cottonwood. She was involved in genealogy, antique collecting, and family and local history. Margaret died on Sunday, July 26, 1992, at the Granite Falls Manor after a lengthy illness. Survivors include a brother, William, Marshall, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Elayne Larsen, Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; nephews: Robert Larsen, Bangkok, Thailand; Ronald Larsen, Bagley, Minnesota and Alaska; a niece: Ruth Ann (Larsen) Nordlund, Shevlin, Minnesota; and four great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Birger. Blessed be her memory.
