(Hofteig) Kompelien
January 15, 1888 – February 12, 1953
Margaret Hofteig Kompelien was born January 15, 1888, in Westerheim Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. Her parents, Sigbjorn and Steinun (Magnusdottur) Hofteig were Icelandic immigrants to America. She was the youngest child of a family of seven, and was bapitzed and confirmed in Westerheim Icelandic Lutheran Church. She attended Gustavus Adolphus Academy at St. Peter, Minnesota, where her musical talent was developed, and she became an accomplished pianist and organist. Her love of music was a source of pleasure throughout her life. She served as church organist in the Westerheim and St. Lucas Churches for a number of years. She was united in marriage to Anton Kompelien in 1907 and they established their home on the Westerheim farm, where she lived the remainder of her life. To this union ten children were born, nine of whom survive. One child died in infancy. Mrs. Kompelien passed away Thrusday, February 12, 1953, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 65 years. Besides her husband, the survivors are her children: Marjorie (Mrs. Irvin Anderson) of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Thelma (Mrs. Naurice Nesset) of Palatine, Illinois, Sidney of Minneota, Minnesota, Owen of Palatine, Illinois, June (Mrs. Marvin Belling) of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Dagny (Mrs. Bob Gniffke) of Hayward, Minnesota, Robert of Crookston, Minnesota, Erling and Ramona at home, and thirteen grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Johan Gunlogson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Mrs. Sam Gunlogson of Madison, Wisconsin; two brothers: Haldor of Minneota, Minnesota, and Steve of Lundar, Manitoba, Canada, and one foster sister, Mrs. Jesse Hoff of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Johan Josefson, and a brother, Jon. Mrs. Kompelien was always of a happy nature and enjoyed the companionship of her family and friends. She was keenly interested in the affairs of the church and community. She was a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Westerheim Ladies Aid.
