Margaret "Marge" Gordon July 5, 1926 ~ July 4, 2013 Margaret "Marge" Hamersma Gordon was born near Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Ike and Wilhemia (Vandehoef) Hamersma on July 5, 1926. She was one of four children in the family (JoAnn, John, Marge and Jim). She graduated at the age of 16 from Inwood High School. Marge married Edgar Wiebe in South Dakota. To this union two sons were born: Lynn and David. The family made their home on a farm near Canton, South Dakota. The family lived there for about eight years. Marge and Rodney Gordon were married in 1954. The family grew with Rod's five daughters, Beverly, Nancy, Donna, Diane and Deloris. Sons Raymond and Roger joined the family later. The family lived at Larchwood, Iowa, until 1957 when they moved to Maynard, Minnesota, and farmed. In 1965 they bought the grocery store in Boyd and renamed it to "Gordon's Grocery." In 1973 they sold the grocery. In 1975 Marge decided to go back to school and attended Southwest College in Marshall. She was part of the first Dietician Class. Marge decided to relocate to Starbuck, Minnesota, and worked at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, a job she loved. She remained there until her retirement at age 80. While she lived in Boyd, she was part of the town council. She continued her civic duty when she moved to Starbuck and became part of that council. She helped with the planning of the Marina expansion. She also was an EMT, involved with the VFW Auxiliary and Girl Scouts. Marge remained in her home in Starbuck and enjoyed collecting vintage clothing and hats. She also was a collector of much glassware. Marge passed away at her home on Thursday, July 4th, 2013, just one day short of her 87th birthday. She is survived by her children: Beverly Johnson, Nancy (friend Orlin) Feick, Donna Bathke, Diane Christianson, Lynn (Dian) Wiebe, Delores (Bob) Belsaas, David Wiebe, Raymond Gordon and Roger (Elaine) Gordon; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edgar and Rodney; her siblings; sons-in-law: Orville Johnson, Norb Bathke and Ronald Christiansen; grandson, Scott Johnson; and daughter-in- law, Cindy Gordon.
