Obituary

OBITUARY OF MAGDALENA ANNA CATHERINA GALOW PIIPKE In His grace and mercy God granted to Herman Galow and his wife Margaret nee Wiegers, the gift of their only daughter Lena Anna Catherina on January 22, 1886, in Omro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. God made her His own dear daugher as she was born again through the washing of water and the Word in Holy Baptism on February 3, 1886, with Pastor Christoph Boettcher officiating at St. John's. God continued to speak to her in His holy Word in her catechism instruction, so that He led her to confess her faith as she was confirmed by Pastor E.G. Fritz on May 7, 1899, here at St. John's. Her confirmation memorial verse was Proverbs 23:26, "My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways." She had little formal schooling, what she had was here at St. John's Christian Day School. God enabled her to use her learning well during the days of her life. On June 23, 1904, God united her with Henry Piipke in the bonds of holy matrimony here at St. John's with Pastor E.G. Fritz officiating. God blessed their marriage with seven children: Leona, Walter, Elmer, Theodore, Agnes, Benjamin, and Elda. Lena lived most of her life in Omro Township. Before her marriage she worked on the farm with her parents. She also served as the church organist before her marriage. God called her husband, Henry, to his eternal rest in 1944. Some years later, He led Lena to move to Clarkfield in 1956 where she lived the last 23 years of her life. ln her early years God permitted her to suffer from various afflictions so that she had surgery several times. Her later years God blessed with fairly good health, though she had a few health problems from time to time. Until the last year, or actually last month or so she was still fairly active. She had moved to the Clarkfield Care Center in January of 1975. There she helped with some of the activities and enjoyed some of the tasks they asked her to do. God gave her a cheerful disposition and the desire to do many things for people in the line of sewing. In His infinite wisdom God called her to her eternal rest in heaven this past Wednesday morning about 8:30. He permitted her to quietly slip away as the result of pneumonia. She had been the oldest living member of St. John's. She leaves to mourn her departure her children: Elmer and his wife of Clarkfield, Ted of Willmar, Minnesota, Agnes Warner and her husband of Montevideo, Minnesota, and Elda Kopitzke and her husband of Clarkfield; her daughter-in-law Ruth Piipke of Omro Township; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; her brothers: Adolph, Leo, Hugo, and Walter, and Emma Tesch of Madison, Minnesota, almost a foster sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; sons: Bennie and Walter; and daughter Leona; her brothers: Ed and Benjamin, one grandchild-Delmore; and two great grandchildren: Andrew and Brenda. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. AMEN.
