Mabelle Katherine (Reay) Mikelson was born November 15, 1916, in Leenthrop Township near Montevideo, Minnesota, to Thomas and Jesse Juliet (Ellis) Reay. She attended the Rosewood Methodist Church, worked on the family farm and attended the local country school. Mabelle worked at the Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Granite Falls and later moved to Hazel Run. She met and married Bennie Mikelson in Hazel Run in 1951. To this union two daughters were born: Pam and Paulette. She was a member of Hazel Run Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid and Hazel Run Legion Auxiliary. She and Bennie were also church custodians. In 1974, after Bennie's death, Maybelle moved to Clarkfield and worked at the Clarkfield Care Center. She lived at Valhalla Apartments for over 20 years. Her interests included playing Scrabble and Rummikub, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. In October of 2003, Maybelle moved to Homefront in Montevideo where she resided until her death. She passed away June 18, 2007, at Homefront, at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children: Pam (Harry) Smith of Clarkfield and Paulette (David) Erp of Hazel Run; and her grandchildren: Bryan (Priscilla) Erp, Andrea Wintz, Matt (Brandi) Smith, David (Sara) Smith, and Aaron Smith. She is also survived by 14 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by step son-in-law Dennis Jorgenson and step daughters-in-law Helen, Marcella and LaMae Mikelson; stepson Bob (Ruth) Mikelson; nieces: Donna (Butch) Arndt and Diane (Merrill) Morlock, Colann German; and nephews Tom, Terry and Jerry York. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; her parents; siblings: Ellis (and Amanda) Reay and Beth (and Gene) York, and Bennie's family: Milo, Kermit and Waldo Mikelson, Beulah Jorgenson, Debbie Jorgenson and Paul Zehnder.
