Mabell Oien Lund of Clarkfield, Minnesota, a lifelong resident of the Clarkfield area, died July 7, 1981, at a St. Paul hospital at the age of 78. She was the widow of Hendrick C. Lund, who operated a jewelry and gift business in Clarkfield for 18 years before his death in 1973. Mabell was born November 22, 1902, to Johan and Ingeborg (Nebben) Oien, on the family farm three miles northwest of Boyd, Minnesota. She was the youngest of nine children. Her parents immigrated to the Dawson, Minnesota area from Gubrundsdalen, Norway, in 1884, and Mabell attended Norwegian school as a youngster. She worked in St. Paul, Minnesota, for several years before her marriage to Hendrick at Boyd on July 1, 1931. They were the parents of three children: Marcheta, Victor, and Dennis. They moved from Clarkfield to Boyd in 1935, to Canby, Minnesota, in 1940, and back to Clarkfield in 1955. Her husband was the proprietor of Lund's jewelry in Clarkfield until his death in 1973, and Mabell continued to operate the store with the help of her children until it closed in 1980. Mabell was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, and her husband. She is survived by her children and nine grandchildren: the family of Marcheta and Duane Scribner, Kirsten, Lisa, Kathleen, Maria, and Emily, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; the family of Victor and Roberta Lund, Rebecca and Elizabeth, all of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; and the family of Dennis and Carol Lund, David and Megan, all of Reston, Virginia. Mabell was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church, and was active in the ALCW. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed her many friends and relatives in the community.
