Mabel was born on March 18, 1921 at Nortonville, North Dakota to parents Ole and Gena (Fragodt) Hanson. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at Ft. Ramson, ND. Mabel attended Black Loam #4 Rural School. Mabel married Oswald T. Kaupang at Webster, SD on November 12, 1948. Two sons were born to them: Curtis and Jerry. Mabel was employed in the Montevideo area for several years working as a housekeeper and then in a canning factory. The Kaupang's moved to Boyd in 1956 and Boyd has been her home since then. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and traveling. She was involved with the Senior Citizens of Boyd. Mabel also loved gardening and was a deliverer of the paper for many years. She entered the Clarkfield Care Center in April of 1998. Mabel passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 1998 at Fairview-Southdale Hospital in Edina at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 26 days. She is survived by her sons: Curtis and Jerry both of Clarkfield; grandchildren: Bob and Katie Kaupang, Christopher Kaupang, Michelle Kaupang, and Corina Schmitt; granddaughter Nakia Shipman; and great-granddaughter Morgan. She is also survived by sister Gladys (and Alvin) Wanner; brother Orville (and Alice) Hanson; sister Ruby (and Sidney) Peterson; sister Doris (and Lloyd) Motl; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oswald in 1965; daughter-in-law Sandy Kaupang; and brothers Clifford, Oscar, Ludvig, and Albert.
