Mabel Hazel Helgeson Borg was born to Helge and Christiana Helgeson on January 16, 1908 in Aitkin, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 3, 1929 she married Alvin Borg at the Sacred Heart Lutheran parsonage. They lived in the Granite Falls area until 1942 when they moved to Hanley Falls, where they farmed for many years until they moved into town in 1968. Mabel was a cook for many years at Irene's Cafe in Hanley Falls. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1979. After Alvin passed away in November, 1986, she remained at home in Hanley Falls until January 1991, when she became a resident of the Granite Falls Manor due to ill health. Mabel passed away on Thursday, January 18, 1996 at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 88 years and 2 days. She is survived by her son Merald Borg and his wife Eileen of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and her daughter Shirley Kyner and her husband Paul of Cashmere, Washington. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Freda Waller of Montevideo, Minnesota; Myrtle Borg of Wegdahl, Minnesota, and Ardis Borg of Burnsville; brothers-in-law Clarence Borg of Montevideo, Minnesota and Oliver Lanning of Grantsburg, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, brothers: Hulbert, Harvey, and Harry; and sisters: Amanda and Tina. Blessed be her memory.
