Mabel Augusta Dahl was born January 26, 1893, at Harcourt, Iowa, one of seven children born to the union of Charles and Christine Dahl. The family moved when she was 11 years of age to a farm near Murdock, Minnesota, where she lived until the time of her marriage to Christian Carl Elkjer on July 1, 1914. The couple made their home for a number of years at Webster and Centerville, South Dakota, Ihlen, Minnesota, and LaMoure, North Dakota, and lived fourteen years in Montevideo, Minnesota, before moving to Clarkfield in 1937. Mrs. Elkjer, in her youth, was confirmed in the Frank Lake Covenant Church near Murdock, Minnesota, under the ministry of Rev. Theodore Steinert. At the time of her death she was a member of the Clarkfield Alliance Church. Her interest in the community was manifested through such organizations as the W.C.T.U., the Garden Club and Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Elkjer died suddenly at home after a heart attack on December 9, 1958, at the age of 65 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert; a brother, Axel; and two sisters, Freda Larson and Emma Chryst. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Louise Lofdahl and Marjorie Nelson of Clarkfield; two sons, Charles of Brazil, South America, and Stanley of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Reuben of Arcadia, California; two sisters, Adla Franklin of Smolan, Kansas, and Esther Deal of Altadena, California; ten grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
