Mabel Cliffgard Nelson, daughter of James and Annie (Nelson) Cliffgard was born at Granite Falls, Minnesota, on August 20, 1885, her parents being among the first pioneers of Granite Falls. At the age of 20, she came to Clarkfield with her mother Annie Cliffgard, a brother Lawrence, and sister Thea. She was united in marriage to Adolph Nelson on November 8, 1908. In 1914 Mabel and Adolph, together with two children, moved to Canada for a short time, after which the went into the restaurant business in Hazel Run, where they remained until coming to Clarkfield. In 1936 their home was built where they resided until 1967 when Adolph had his stroke and they moved into the Clarkfield Care Center. She passed away December 17, 1976, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 91. Survivors include her six children: Abigail (Mrs. Robert Wood) of Minneapolis, Merald of Hopkins, Lloyd of Minneapolis, Donald of Clarkfield, Dora (Mrs. Carl Hanson) of Hopkins, and Diana (Mrs. Arvey Hanson) of Clarkfield; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alice (Mrs. Lawrence Cliffgard) of Clarkfield; and a brother-in-law, Edward Nelson of St. Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband Adolph; her parents; a sister Thea; and two brothers: Lawrence and Lewis. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
