Obituary

Luella May Johnson was born in Trego, Wisconsin, on May 9, 1929, to parents Lillian (Rice) and Hollister Pease. She spent most of her childhood in Dexter, Minnesota and graduated from high school in Austin, Minnesota. She attended nurse's training at St. John's in Red Wing, Minnesota. After graduation she came to Clarkfield and worked at the hospital from 1951-1986. As a young nurse working at the hospital, Lu caught the attention of one of the local men, David M. Johnson and they were married in April of 1952. Together they raised their four daughters on a farm outside of Clarkfield. Through Lu's work at the hospital and involvement in 4-H, she touched the lives of many people in the community. She will be remembered for this as well as her talents which included various crafts, gardening, and raising houseplants. Dave and Lu shared a love for the southwestern United States and spent the last five winters being snowbirds in Picacho, Arizona. Lu left behind her husband, children: Cindy (Mrs. Richard) Alness of Mound, Minnesota; Sandra (Mrs. David) Werner of Kimmel, Indiana; Debra Johnson of Excelsior, Minnesota; and Julie (Mrs. Tim) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cindy's children, Eric, Angela, Amy, and Melissa Alness; and Sandy's children, Leah, Timothy, Peter, Naomi, Benjamin and Phillip Werner greatly miss their Grandma Lu. She is also survived by her mother Lillian Pease and by her sister Esther Anderson, both of Clarkfield, Minnesota. Lu was preceded in death by her father, Hollister Pease; sister, Marion; and brother, Arthur.
