Obituary

Ludwig Bernard Halverson was born on March 6, 1905, in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, of parents Lewis and Bertina (Stokke) Halverson. He was baptized on March 26, 1905, at St. Lucas Lutheran Church of Normania Township by Rev. Martin Romstad and confirmed at the same church in 1919 by Pastor Romstad. He attended Public Schools in District No. 2, Yellow Medicine County and the Clarkfield Public Schools, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture at Morris, Minnesota, in 1928. He worked with Dairy Herd Improvement Associations a number of years and for five years had charge of the Dairy and Poultry Divisions at the South Dakota State School for the Deaf at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1935, he purchased the Gamble Store at Tyler, Minnesota, which he operated until he was called into the Service in December of 1942. For the past 37 years, he has operated a General Store in Swede Prairie Township. Ludwig married Thora Halverson of Cottonwood, Minnesota, on April 12, 1942. He is survived by his wife, Thora; son, James of Bloomington, Minnesota; brother, Henry of Granite Falls, Minnesota; three sisters: Ella Nelson and Judith Kompelien of Minneota, Minnesota, and Irene Kolhei of Cottonwood, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
