Obituary

Ludwig John Fenske was born August 14, 1868, at Koenigs Dorf, Province Posen, Germany, the son of Gottlieb Fenske and Wilhelmina (Roske) Fenske. He was baptized and confirmed in Germany in the Lutheran church. He came to America at the age of 21. He worked at Blue Earth, Minnesota, for four years. From there he went to Omro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church there until he moved to Wood Lake, Minnesota, in 1945 and became a member there. On March 18, 1897, he was united in marriage to Bertha Wiegers at St. John's Lutheran Church of Omro Township. This union was blessed with eight children. They are Ernest and Edward of Boyd, Minnesota, Selma (Mrs. Henry Wiegers) of Lynd, Minnesota, Alma (Mrs. John Wiegers) of Glendale, Arizona, Hilda (Mrs. Walter Geistfeld), Lenora (Mrs. Harold Geistfeld), and Gwendolyn (Mrs. Elmer Geistfeld), all of Wood Lake. He passed away December 30, 1952, at his Wood Lake, Minnesota home at the age of 84 years. Mr. Fenske is survived by his wife, Bertha (Wiegers) Fenske; seven children; sixteen grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fred Eckhardt of Boyd, Minnesota; and one brother, William, of Brook Park, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his son, Fredrick in 1918, and one brother. He was blessed with good health most of his life, and was privileged to celebrate his 55th wedding anniversary during the past year. He became ill in October, 1952, and was bedridden since that time. He was called to his eternal home on December 30, 1952, having reached the age of 84 years, four months and 16 days. He was a faithful member of his church both in Omro Township and at Wood Lake. He held various offices in the church, such as treasurer for 14 years, trustee for six years, janitor, secretary and a delegate to synod for 12 years.
