Lorraine Maude Anderson was born June 20, 1913, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the first child of Lester and Minnie Anderson. She was baptized at Swede Prairie Lutheran Church on July 16, 1913. After graduating from the Clarkfield High School in 1930, she attended the Normal Teachers Training School at Renville, Minnesota, and received her diploma in 1931. For four years, 1931- 1935, she was a rural school teacher in District 74, Burton Township, near St. Leo, Minnesota. Lorraine married William P. West on June 15, 1935. They were engaged in farming until William's death in 1958. She continued living on the farm south of Clarkfield until moving to Clarkfield in 1980. They were the parents of six children, four of whom are still living. Lorraine was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Lorraine had a great love for music and enjoyed playing the piano with family, friends and the community. She also enjoyed co-chairing the Clarkfield Centennial book with Aletta West. Lorraine passed away on August 31, 1993, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home, Litchfield, Minnesota, her place of residence for the past year, at the age of 80. Survivers include two daughters: Karen and husband Pastor William Wrieden of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Diane and husband Elroy Lange of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; two sons: Pastor Lyndy and wife Diane of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Brian and wife Lynn of Litchfield, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Artys Cole of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. Lorraine West was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: William and Stuart; her parents; one granddaughter; one sister, Marvelle; and one brother, Alford.
