Lloyd Franklin Kirkeby was born on February 9, 1918, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Olaus and Inga (Olson) Kirkeby. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Lloyd left school his senior year of high school to help his Dad farm. On July 12, 1940, Lloyd married Eunice (Wold) at Boyd, Minnesota. Lloyd and Eunice farmed for many years. In 1955, the family moved to California where he worked in construction. The Kirkeby family returned to Clarkfield after two years in California. Lloyd worked at the Clarkfield Locker Plant and was Chief of Police in Clarkfield for many years. His last job was at the AMPI Cheese Plant in Clarkfield. Lloyd retired in 1983. Lloyd and Eunice maintained their home in Clarkfield for several years before moving to Starbuck, Minnesota. In 1997 they moved to an assisted living home in Marshall, Minnesota. The past two years, Lloyd has lived at the Weiner Memorial Long Term Care Facility of Marshall. Lloyd enjoyed the special times he had fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, gardening, snowmobiling and the time spent with his family. His pleasant and outgoing personality allowed him to meet numerous new people and make friends wherever he went. Lloyd passed away at the Weiner Memorial Care Facility on Monday morning, November 27, 2000, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 18 days. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years; sons: Delas (Cathy) of Alexandria, Minnesota, Michael of Hawley, Minnesota, and daughters: Nona (Don) Stokke of Marshall and Diane (Larry) Nutter of North Oaks, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters: Charlotte Vik of San Antonio, Texas, and Dorothy Peterson of Cupertino, California; many nieces and nephews; and the special staff at the WMMC Long Term Care Facility. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren.
