Lloyd Paul Swen Ecklund was born on December 18, 1910, in Swenoda Township, Swift County, Minnesota, to Swen and Anna (Skold) Ecklund. He grew to manhood in Swenoda and went to school there. As a young man he worked as a farm hand until he joined the Armed Forces where he served for four years, three and one-half of which were spent in India as a cook. After he was discharged he farmed the home place for a year before working for the REA at Benson, Minnesota, for several years, after which he worked for several Clarkfield area farmers. He and Clara Jula Nodshelder were married on July 6, 1954, in Hazel Run, Minnesota, by Pastor Olson. They made their home in Boyd, Minnesota, for several years before moving to Clarkfield, Minnesota. Lloyd passed away on May 20, 1980, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his wife, Clara; one step-daughter, Helen Bode; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters: Esther Roberts, Alice Halverson and Carrie Ecklund, all of Benson, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Grace, Hannah and Stella; one brother, Albert; two brothers and three sisters who died in infancy; and one step-son, Thorvald.
