Leif Bjornebo was born February 18, 1922, in Lucas Township, west of Cottonwood, Minnesota, to Krog and Charlotte (Troseth) Bjornebo. He was baptized and confirmed at Silo Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, Minnesota. He graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1940. Leif served in the United States Army, Timberwolves Division, 104th Infantry, in the European Theatre, during World War II, from 1942-1945. On September 25, 1948, Leif married Rose Marie Corehouse in Minneota. They farmed until 1983, when they moved to town. Rose passed away on May 3, 1988. He worked at the Fertilizer Plant and was custodian at Christ Lutheran Church and United Southwest Bank. Leif and Nellie Idso were married on August 12, 1989. They continued to live in Cottonwood. He was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served on several boards as well as ushering. He was a member of the Cottonwood American Legion Post #503 and Cottonwood Lions Club. He enjoyed working in the yard. He passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at his home, after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 10 days. He is survived by his wife, Nellie; sons: Mark Bjornebo of Cottonwood; Rory (and Sue) Bjornebo of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughters: Robi Rifat of Watertown, Wisconsin; and Juli Rose of Bozeman, Montana; step-children: Sherry (and Bob) Proctor; Peggy (and Clayton) Willhite; Ken Idso; Kevin (and Tammy) Idso; Kacy (and Tami) Idso; and Brandy Idso; brother, Morris (and Phyllis) Bjornebo; sisters: Helen Reishus; Arvilla Berg; and Yvonne (and Murl) Johnson; sister-in-law: Jean Bjornebo; brothers-in-law: Lester (and Phyllis) Ferguson; and Walter (and Diane) Ferguson; sister-in-law Donna (and Dale) McJunkin; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
