IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lewis Olai
Droen
July 10, 1877 – July 10, 1877
Lewis Olai Droen was born on the Droen farmstead two miles north of Clarkfield on July 10th, 1877. His parents, Anders Larson Droen and Inger Olson Droen carried him to the Bergen Church where he was baptized by Rev. K. Thorstensen on July 29th, 1877. He was confirmed by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard July 24th, 1892. He attended country school in Lisbon Township and spent most of his early life working with his dad on the home farm. For several years he worked part time as a machinist at Hopkins and operated a steam threshing outfit in this locality during the harvest seasons. He worked several years as committeeman of the Tripple A Program, served as Town Board Member and also as an Assessor so he was particularly well known to Lisbon Township farmers. On December 26, 1896, he transferred from the Bergen Church to the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Clarkfield where he was a member at the time of his death. His faith in God became increasingly evident as he grew older. On December 23rd, 1915, he married Alma Anderson and they built a home a half mile east of his old home where he lived the rest of his life. He had not been in good health since Mother passed away in 1946, but he was able to be up and around and take care of a few household chores. He visited and enjoyed supper with his family before the basketball game Friday night, had his lunch later on in the evening and appeared in the best of spirits. He slept away peacefully during the night at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 10 days. He is survived by his two children: Alice (Mrs. Harold Smith) and Andrew; one grandson, Richard Smith; one brother, Andrew; and five sisters: Mrs. Josie Engevik of Gatzke, Minnesota, Mrs. Gilbert Anderson, Mrs. Annie Smolley, Susie Droen, all of Clarkfield, and Mrs. Jeanette Bue of Minneapolis.
