Leslie Roger Vien was born on November 16, 1913, in Normania Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Ludvig and Amelia (Ringstad) Vien. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church of Normania Township. On September 11, 1936, Les was united in marriage to Ida Hatlen. This union was blessed with seven children: Beverly, Claire, Roger, Doreen, Inez, Lori, and Chuck. The Vien family made their home in Clarkfield, Minnesota, where Les was employed as a grain elevator operator for the Clarkfield Farmers Elevator. Les was an avid pinochle player. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, baseball games, circle-a-word books, latch hook, and always treated his car with loving care. He helped deliver 'Meals on Wheels' for many years. Les passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 21 days. He is survived by his wife, Ida, of Clarkfield; and his children and their families: Beverly (and Bill) Judge, Claire (and Jim) Brown, Roger (and Diane) Vien, Doreen (and Ron) Christensen. Inez Jessen, Lori (and Ken) Haukos, and Chuck (and Vicki) Vien; plus 17 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Margaret Martin, Violet Damann (Orville), and Jean (Ed) Lundstrom; and one sister-in-law Rebecca Vien. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Francis and Hiram Vien; and one sister Elmira Hansen; plus other family members: Viola Vien, Bill Martin and Henry Hansen.
