LeRoy A. Johnson (December 21, 1922 ~ January 25, 2012) LeRoy A. Johnson was born on December 21, 1922, at the home of his parents, Peter and Alma (Zietlow) Johnson. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church-Tyro Township and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Boyd. He attended country school through the eighth grade. LeRoy married Alice Varpness on February 9, 1947. They lived on their farm west of Clarkfield and raised their four daughters: Carol, Diane, Judy and Elaine. LeRoy was very proud of being a farmer. He took pride in clean crops and always enjoyed being the first farmer done in the fall. In addition to crop farming, he raised steers, however, one of his greatest enjoyments was painting pictures. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. The Johnsons lived on their farm until the late 1990s when they moved to Montevideo. When their health started to fail, LeRoy and Alice moved to Ren-villa Care Center in Renville, Minnesota. Following the death of Alice, LeRoy returned to Montevideo. He was living at Luther Haven at the time of his death. LeRoy passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 4 days. He is survived by his daughters: Carol Roozen of Rogers, Minnesota, Diane (Dale) Nelson of Northfield, Minnesota, Judy (Peter) Stuber of Brownsville, Minnesota, and Elaine (Lynn) Erickson, of Montevideo, Minnesota; and his sister, Evelyn Walter of Montevideo, Minnesota. He is also survived by grandchildren: Amy (Ryan) Goodale, Paul (Renee) Nelson, Michael (Nicole) Nelson, Tammy (Bill) Schmitz, Terresa (Dave) Bubbers, Jeremy (Melissa) Erickson, Joshua (Allison) Erickson; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Varpness; and brother and sister-in law, Jimmy and Rosann Varpness.
