Leonard Ordell Oakland was born to parents Lars and Maye (Anderson) Oakland in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on September 3, 1928. He passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, on Wednesday, September 13, 2000, at the age of 72 years and 10 days. He is survived by his sisters: Vivian (Sidney) Knutson of Minneota, Minnesota, and Marlys (John) Londgren of Clarkfield, Minnesota; and brothers: Verdell Oakland of Montevideo, Minnesota, and Lars Oakland of Hector, Minnesota. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Gladys Oakland and Phyllis Oakland, both of Clarkfield; and many nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sister Shirley; brothers: Juell, Maurice and Merlyn; nephew Paul Oakland; sister-in-law Marlys Oakland; and brother-in-law Sidney Knutson. Leonard attended Country School District #86 for eight years. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He then farmed until retiring and moving to his home in Clarkfield in 1991. He helped on area farms during the planting and harvest seasons and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church and the Clarkfield American Legion. Leonard was a great brother and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
