Leona Marie Johnson was born May 29, 1913 at Cleghorn, Iowa to parents George and Catherine (Theil) Hartliep. She married Arthur S. Johnson on March 3, 1932. To this union were born six children: Kenneth, Virginia, June, Vernon, James and Arda. Leona lived in the Clarkfield and Granite Falls area. Leona became a resident of the St. Peter Health Care Center about five years ago. She passed away at the Center on Wednesday, December 30th, 1998 at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and one day. She is survived by her family: Kenneth (and Jeanette) Johnson of Elk River, MN; Virginia (and Richard) Pratt of North Mankato, MN; Vernon (and Delores) Johnson of Burnsville, MN; James (and Mary) Johnson of Granite Falls, MN: Arda (and LeRoy) Nelsen of Kingwood, TX. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and sisters: Lucille Durgin of Rochester, MN and Mabel Henry of Janesville, WI and brother Lester (and Dorothy) Hartliep of Byron, MN. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Arthur Johnson in 1974, daughter June in 1934 and brothers: Clarence, Ben, and Clifford Hartliep and sister Laura Elson. Blessed be her memory.
