Obituary

Mrs. Lena (Winson) Peterson was born September 19, 1868, near Decorah, in Winneshiek County, Iowa. Her parents were Lars, Sr. and Anna Winson, pioneers of Lisbon Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Peterson passed away Sunday morning, March 26, 1950, at Lutheran Deaconesss Hospital, Minneapolis, after suffering a heart attack. She had reached the age of 81 years, six months and nine days. In 1884 she was married to Andrew Peterson. To this union eleven children were born. Her husband and three children, Amanda, Harry and Edward preceded her in death. Also preceding Mrs. Peterson in death were her parents; three sisters: Mrs. A.O. Lee, Mrs. Jacob Nelson and Olina Winson; and three brothers: Lars, Wins and a baby brother. Left to mourn her departure are eight children: Mrs. Ingeborg Powers of Flint, Michigan, Mrs. Clara West of Minneapolis, Mrs. Ella Bedford of Hollywood, Florida, Willard of Flint Michican, Mrs. Geneva Espy of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Dagna Nelson of Calver City, California, Alfred of Minneapolis and Gailen of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Henry Muxter and Mrs. Hans Oakland of Montevideo; two brothers: John Winson of Minneapolis and Anton Winson of Clarkfield. Mrs. Peterson was in business in Clarkfield in the early pioneer days. The Petersons built a pop factory and hotel on the grounds where the Community Hospital now stands. They built the hotel now owned by Dave Peterson. Later Mrs. Peterson was in the restaurant business and also operated the first bakery in Clarkfield. She lived in Clarkfield until 1916 when she moved with her family to Minneapolis. She was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church and ladies aid during those years. Fourteen years ago she built a home in east Clarkfield where she loved to spend the summer months while the winter months were spent with her daughter, Clara West, in Minneapolis. She will be sadly missed by her loved ones. Funeral Services Thursday, March 30, 1950, 2:00 p.m. Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota Clergy Officiating, Rev. J.E.H.
