IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lena (Amslen)
Feist
October 19, 1862
Lena Amslen Feist was born October 19, 1862, in Densburen, Kt. Aargen, Switzerland. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Together with two sisters, she came to this country when she was 19 years old, settling in LeMars, Iowa. Here she met Mr. Mikel Feist, whom she married in March, 1885. After their marriage the young couple moved to a farm they had purchased near Hinton, Iowa. Here they spent their best years. Eight children were born to them during their stay at Hinton, namely, Verna, William, Herman, Caroline, Elmer, Joseph, Rose and Clarence. In the year 1914 they sold their Iowa farm and moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, purchasing the farm one mile west of Clarkfield. Here they lived until after Mr. Feist's death in 1917. Two years later Mrs. Feist moved to Clarkfield, where she purchased a home. She made her home here continuously until her last illness. May 30, 1951, Mrs. Feist was taken ill. She suffered much, including the amputation of one limb. But she had always been a strong, healthy woman. This was her first stay in a hospital, in fact, she had hardly ever been ill. Death came to her Tuesday morning, February 10, 1953, at the Morris Rest Home, Morris, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years, three months and nine days. Surviving her are five children: William of Hazel Run, Minnesota, Caroline (Mrs. Carl Weber), Elmer and Rose (Mrs. George Silver) of Clarkfield, and Clarence of Montevideo, Minnesota; 27 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. She also leaves three sisters and one brother to mourn her death. One of the sisters living in Switzerland is 96 years old.
