IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lela B
(Stevens) Anderson
March 8, 1916 – December 21, 2006
Lela B. (Stevens) Anderson was born on the farm she grew up on in Minnesota Falls Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on March 8, 1916, to Albert and Mary (Gilbertson) Stevens. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifetime member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. Lela attended Country School and graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1934. While in high school she enjoyed playing basketball. Lela married John H. Anderson on January 21, 1942, at Forest Lawn Church in Orange County, California. They made their home on the Anderson family farm in rural Hanley Falls, Minnesota. To this union four sons were born: David, Lynn, Gary, and Gale. Lela's faith was very strong. She was active in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church singing with the "Harmonettes" and the Senior Choir, teaching Sunday School and started a Women's Bible Study. Lela treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren; visits from family and friends were a highlight of each day. John and Lela enjoyed farming and raising cattle until their retirement in 1975, when they moved to Hanley Falls. Lela moved to Riverview Apartments in Granite Falls, Minnesota, in 1998 and remained there until October 2006 when she moved to the Granite Falls Manor. Lela passed away at the Manor on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 13 days. She is survived by her four sons: David (Georgia), Lynn (Jean), Gary (Jean) of Hanley Falls and Gale (Linda) of Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruth Stevens; brother-in-law Roy Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1981; her daughter-in-law Sharon in 2005; her sister Alta in 1989; and brother Arden in 1986. Blessed be her memory.
