Obituary

Lee Chester Granell was born January 15, 1903, at Galva, Illinois, to the parents Eric and Cora (Chilberg) Granell. He was second in the family of ten and all his brothers and sisters were here for the services, namely: Mr. and Mrs. James (Murl) Hoffstatler, Mr. and Mrs. Gene (Edna) Blodgette, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Grannell, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Granell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Marvis) McMillin, all of East Moline, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Julius (Florence) Jaunich of Chicago, Illinois, Donald Granell of Geneseo, Illinois, Mrs. Delbert (Helen) Greene, Milan, Illinois, and Mrs. Vina Long of Hazel Run, Minnesota. His 83 year old aunt, Mrs. Lillian Bornehoft of Silvas, Illinois, also accompanied the group of 15. At the age of three, Lee with his family, moved to Worthington, Minnesota, where he started school and then later continued his education in a rural school near Clarkfield. His father was a mechanic for Olson and Lund for many years and then Hanson and Lund. He mixed the mortar for the theater-garage when built in 1919. Lee worked with construction crews in the area for many years and also served as trucker. He worked with a dump truck and three mules when the highway north of Clarkfield was constructed; hauled the first semi-load of livestock out of this community and drove the present large Western Transport gas trucks of today. He retired from Western Transport in 1968 and since then has been part time employed by Cesyl Westre in his trucking work. On April 26, 1930, Lee was united in marriage to Evelyn Johnson of Renville, Minnesota. To this union five girls and two sons were born. All were present here in August of 1970 when the Granells observed their fortieth wedding anniversary, and now for the services, along with their mates: Mr. and Mrs. Melvin (Dallas) Ehlert and girls of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Dean (Marilyn) Baker and boys of Seattle, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. William (Wanda) Sharkey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Rosalee) Savoie and family and LeeWayne Granell, all of Hanley Falls and Larry Granell of Hutchinson, Minnesota. Lee was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith and was a member of the Clarkfield United Methodist Church for many years. He was an ardent gardener and enjoyed to work with his flowers and lawn. In Memory of LEE C.
