Lawrence (Bill) Emmert was born on December 29, 1905 in Alcester, Union County, South Dakota, to parents Alfred A. and Rose (Courtland) Emmert. Lawrence stayed in South Dakota until his marriage to Louise Alvina Winters on June 13, 1928 in Madison, South Dakota. Lawrence and Louise and their family moved to Northern Minnesota and then to Montevideo and Clarkfield areas. Lawrence and Louise had five children: Rose Margaret, Raymond Leroy, Ramona Marie, Lawrence Eugene, and Norman Arlo. Lawrence enjoyed woodworking and was a "fix-it" man for many at Valhalla Apartment. He also enjoyed being a volunteer driver for many. Lawrence retired to the Valhalla Apartments in 1976 and stayed there until his health required more care. He moved to the Madison Lutheran Home in October of 1993 and remained there until his death. He passed away on Thursday morning, April 21, 1994, at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota, at the age of 88. He is survived by children: Raymond (wife Lois) of Madison, Minnesota, Ramona Larson of Corona, South Dakota, Lawrence (wife Mary Ann) of Washington, and Normal (wife Mackie) of Tennessee. Also surviving are nine Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren, and two brothers, Howard of Ironton, Minnesota, and Harold of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, and daughter Rose Margaret. Blessed be his memory.
