Obituary

Knute Sorenson died March 19, 1988, at the Twin Rivers Nursing Home in Anoka, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, 1988, 11:00 a.m. at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church, Hazel Run, Minnesota, with Pastor William Klavetter officiating. Mrs. Duane Jacobson was organist and Loren Norgaard the soloist. Grandson Dean played a trombone solo. Congregational Hymn was "Amazing Grace". Casket Bearers were Doc Dyrdahl, Shannon Johnson, Olaf Risa, Curtis Wilson, Leslie Wilson and Walter Wilson. Final Resting Place is Hazel Run Lutheran Cemetery, Hazel Run, Minnesota. Knute was born May 3, 1894, to Sam and Tildy (Aslakson) Sorenson in Bygland, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his church in Bygland. He attended school at East Grand Forks, Minnesota. On February 21, 1921, he was married to Alvina Lunow in St. Paul, Minnesota. A son, Everett was born in 1933 in Hazel Run. He was a grain buyer for 15 years and worked in the Hazel Run Elevator. In 1932 he started the Sorenson Bulk Oil business which he operated for 28 years. Knute's enjoyment of music started early in his life at Bygland. His first instrument was a trumpet and later the baritone. He continued to enjoy this until his last years. He played many years in the Hazel Run Band and was helpful in moving the Hazel Run Bandshell to Granite Falls, Minnesota, as part of the permanent display at the County Museum. He was a member of 20 different bands in his lifetime. He joined the Over 60's Band of Minnesota and traveled to many towns and states making music with his friends. In 1960 Knute retired and he and Alvina moved to Granite Falls where they resided until 1978. At this time they moved to Anoka, Minnesota, to be near their son and family. He is survived by his son, Everett and daughter-in-law Jacquelyn; and three grandchildren, Dean, Jill and Scott of Anoka. Also surviving are nieces and nephews from Bygland and East Grand Forks. He is preceded in death by his wife Alvina in 1985, one brother and three sisters.
