Knute S. Haugen was born January 26, 1888, on a farm in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Sigurd and Signe (Solberg) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. On March 4, 1914, Knute Haugen and Annie "Imo" Homan were married. To this union five children were born: Kermit of Clarkfield, Glen of St. Paul, Harold of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Orrin of Hazel Run, and Gladys (Mrs. Darold Doose) of Granite Falls, Minnesota. They farmed near Hazel Run until 1958 when Knute retired, remaining on the farm until 1969, when they moved to Granite Falls. Knute entered the Granite Manor in 1975, where he passed away on May 21, 1978, at the age of 90 years. Besides his wife and five children, survivors include 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Conrad of Clarkfield; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers and one grandson.
