Knute Severin Espe was born November 17, 1887, in Horningdal, Nordfjord, Norway, the son of Ole Pedersen and Ingeborg (Sateren) Espe. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Horningdal Church. In 1910, he immigrated to America and settled at Clarkfield, Minnesota, where he was engaged in farming. He spent a few years in North Dakota. About 1922, he purchased a farm northwest of Clarkfield where he lived the remainder of his life. He has been a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church since 1923. On May 5, 1961, he took ill and was admitted to the local hospital where he passed peacefully away on May 20, 1961, at the age of 73 years. Mr. Espe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters in Norway. He is survived by his brother Samuel of Clarkfield and in Norway, two sisters, Pauline and Nicline and two brothers, Peter and Einar; a cousin, Olaf Sateren, who has resided with him since 1927, besides a host of friends.
