Kermit Preus Ness was born in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on November 9, 1924, to Ralph and Emma Ness. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Lutheran Church. He died, unexpectedly, at his home in Lisbon Township on October 29, 1991, at the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 20 days. Kermit was a graduate of Clarkfield High School, the University of Minnesota, and St. Cloud State University. He taught high school English at Wood Lake and Granite Falls for over 20 years. Although he loved teaching, he was still a farmer at heart. He farmed on the home farm his entire adult life. He was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He had been married to Marian Fossen, and to Lynn Aadland. Kermit and Lynn adopted Chris Ness in 1975 in Columbia, South America, at the age of one year. Chris has lived with Kermit since that time. Kermit married Shirley Van Selus on November 21, 1990, in Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; son, Chris; stepsons, Steven, Paul, Rick, and Mark Brendmoen; his mother, Emma Ness Johnson; and granddaughter, Haley Brendmoen. He was preceded in death by his father, Realph Ness; brother, Ardine Ness; and stepfather, Stuart Johnson.
