Obituary

Kay Knudson was born on February 21, 1924, near Cottonwood to Theodore and Bergitta (Grande) Knudson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Cottonwood, Minnesota, until 1973. Since that time he has been a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church of Normania Township, rural Cottonwood. Kay was a graduate of Cottonwood High School, attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. On July 12, 1947, he was united in marriage with lone Dahl and to this union four children (Beverly, Lon, Kurtis, and Karolee) were born. He managed Kay's Fairway Store until 1956 and farmed until the time of his death. He was a faithful servant of the Lord in his church and community. Kay served on the church councils and was a member of the choirs. While a member of the Cottonwood American Legion he served as Chaplain for many years. He had been battling cancer of the pancreas since August 1985. During this time he remained strong and was deeply moved by the love and support of his family and friends. Kay died on Tuesday, May 13, 1986, after a brief hospitalization at Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, lone of rural Cottonwood; four children, Beverly (Mrs. Tom Fedje) of Bettendorf, Iowa, Dr. Lon Knudson of Mankato, Minnesota, Kurtis Knudson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Karolee Knudson of Marshall; five Grandchildren, Sara, Rachel, Mark, Kara, and Amanda; his Mother, Bergitta Knudson and his sister, Geneva Wunderlich both of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; his sister, Evangeline Kraft of Brewster, Minnesota; his brother, Norman Knudson of Cottonwood; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Theodore. Funeral Services for Kay, age 62, were held on Friday, May 16, 1986, at 2:00 p.m. from Christ Lutheran Church of Cottonwood. Officiating was Pastor John Christiansen and organist was Gwen Arneson. Vocal solo was by Curt Dahl, singing "The Lord's Prayer." Congregational Hymns were "Beautiful Savior," "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" and "O God of Mercy, God of Light." Final Resting Place is Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Cottonwood, Minnesota. Serving as casket bearers were Gerald Aamodt, Stanley Aamodt, Steve Gniffke, Byron Kompelien, James Runholt, and Virgil Thompson. Military Rites were by the Cottonwood American Legion Post No. 503.
