Susanna Kathrina, daughter of Rasmus and Gertrude (Heimark) Hanson, was born at Ridgeway, Iowa, July 18, 1871. She passed away at her Clarkfield, Minnesota home, March 2, 1950, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 14 days. Mrs. Vik had been a resident of Yellow Medicine County since 1876, when she came with her parents by covered wagon from Winnesheik County, Iowa. As a child she was a member of the Bergen Church and was confirmed there by Rev. O. Lokensgaard. March 30, 1895, she was united in marriage to M. Olai Vik. Soon after their marriage they transferred their church membership to the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Their home was blessed with nine children. Two preceded their mother in death: Mabel who died at the age of 10 and Arthur in infancy. Surviving along with her husband are: Melvin of Onamia, Minnesota, Theodore of Saint Anthony, Idaho, Olivia of Cresco, Iowa, Henrik of Kingsley, Iowa, Reuben, Ruth and Olaf of Clarkfield. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Betsy Solberg of Seattle, Washington, and 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Vik was a charter member of the Clarkfield Ladies Aid and was active in this work as long as her health permitted. She was also active in the work of the W.C.T.U. A kind and loving mother and wife as well as a woman who always loved to be of service, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.
