IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karl J.
Heimark
October 20, 1878
Karl J. Heimark, oldest of twelve children, was born October 20, 1878, on the homestead of Jacob and Christine (Storebo) Heimark in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of the Bergen congregation. In his early twenties, Karl left home in the traditional pioneering manner to seek his fortune in Canada. He lost his leg shortly after arriving in Canada while working for the Canadian railroad system. Although handicapped he adjusted well and for years made his living as a traveling salesman. His foresight led him to believe the future of agriculture was with machinery thus was one of the pioneer owners and operators of custom threshing equipment. During this time, he also helped brothers, Henry and Clarence on the home farm with heavy tractor work. In 1942, realizing that a great need for manpower existed in our war efforts he began working in a Detroit, Michigan factory as an elevator operator. After his retirement in 1950, he returned to Minnesota and his much loved Lisbon Township and lived with his brother, Clarence, for approximately two years prior to entering Madison Old Peoples Home. He later established residence in Granite Falls where he was residing January 28, 1956, when he peacefully passed away. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Heimark; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Black and Mrs. Anna Lindstadt; and three brothers, Dr. Andrew, John and Henry J. Heimark have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, three brothers: Dr. J.J. Heimark of Fairmont, Minnesota, Ole and Clarence of the Clarkfield community; three sisters: Mrs. Cecelia Ellingson of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Henry Berg of Solway, Minnesota, and Mrs. Archie Anderson of Richfield, Minnesota, plus numerous other relatives and friends. Always a liberal, Karl was never afraid to speak his mind but always tried to be fair. He was regarded by his friends as an honest and conscientious citizen. His comfort and devotion to his widowed mother during the years they lived together served as a tribute to his character. IN MEMORY OF KARL J.
