Obituary

Karl Elvin Haaland was born April 22, 1925 in Friendship Township to Gabriel and Barbara (Fenn) Haaland. He was baptized at Bethlehem Church of Normania Township and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He attended School District #28. Karl served in the United States Army during World War II. He was with the Occupation Forces in Japan as a Military Police. He was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Karl and Viola Girdeen were married on November 29, 1958 at Red Wing, MN. Two children were blessed to this marriage: Karen and Jon. Karl and Vi farmed until 1988. In 1994 they moved into Clarkfield. Karl enjoyed sports and assisting his neighbors, and visiting with his family. He entered the Clarkfield Care Center in August of 1995, where he resided until his death. Karl passed away Thursday morning, April 22, 1999, the day of his 74th birthday, at the Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Viola of Clarkfield; son Jon (and Anita) Haaland and grandchildren: Courtney, Jonathon, Jason, and Steven. He is also survived by sisters: Minnie Christensen, Annie Christensen, both of Clarkfield; Mabel Brandt of Granite Falls, and Helen Leasman of Boyd; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen; brothers: Gustav, Ole, Kenneth, and Gerhard; and sisters Christine Aakvik, Gladys Christensen, and Hannah Evenson. Blessed be his memory.
